Hi All,

We have a Dell Inspiron ONE2310 desktop computer.

We changed the hard disk drive once before.

Our computer is in a cold workshop and when I turn it off at night in winter and start the computer up in the morning, the hard disk drive makes a noise.

1. It sounds like the bearing of the hard disk drive?
2. Is this because the bearing fluid is cold?
3. Is it better to leave our computer on 24/7 in winter?
4. If it not because the bearing fluid is cold, then what is it?

Please help?

Best regards,

Yanni

There should not be any issues with starting the drive from a cold boot, all platter drives will make some noise when the spin up. Some more than others. Keep backups of your files and use the computer how you want. If you want a system without any funny noises you can get a solid state drive.

Thank You William P for your help. I left computer on all night and this morning the internal hard disk drive of the computer wasn't making any noise. I think I will leave the computer on in winter.

Thank You Jay32267 and Rogue Leader for your help.

Last night I didn't turn of our computer, I just put it to sleep, to go to sleep after 2 hours not being used and this morning the computers internal hard disk drive is not making any noise.

We do back up any important documents by putting it in cloud storage and/or printing it.
