I have a 1TB HDD. I don't remember when I bought it. Maybe 5+ years ago. It came in a USB enclosure, but 1-2 years ago, the enclosure failed and would not be detected. Thinking it was the controller in the enclosure, I detached it and plugged the bare drive directly into computer via SATA. Worked fine since then with no loss of files ever since it was originally bought.

Immediately after I changed my GPU, I booted up the computer and got a smart code 6. I read the instructions and it said to retry. I retried and drive worked fine for a few days, until today when I return from sleep mode and it's like the drive is totally gone. I tried playing around with the cable and could hear the HDD spin up, but it never registered on the computer. I took it out and decided to shake it and tap on it, and this time it connected.

I'm scrambling right now to copy all of the files to any spare storage I have, keeping it in a vertical position that seems to make it work.

Is this drive done for good?
