Match new router id to existing extender

My current WiFi extender, Netgear, ID does now not match the new router id , ie VM******. By match I means the first 8 chars of the extender id. How do I change the extender id. My router has a wps button

You should be able to set the SSID in the wifi settings.

While you are looking at stuff make sure your disable the WPS it is a massive security risk. They should have gotten rid of this years ago but people are too lazy to manually configure their stuff so many router ship with a huge security hole enabled.
