Hi! So, I'm trying to overclock a Q9400 cpu with a Asus P5Q-EM DO motherboard, but it doesn't really want to work. The most I could get is 340*8 FSB (333*8 is the default), anything beyond that and it won't boot, after restarting the pc I get the "overclocking failed" message.

Tried it with lower and higher DRAM frequencies, cpu volts from 1.225 to 1.325, nb from 1.2 to 1.4, ram from 1.8 to 2, but nothing seems to work. I have C1e disabled, speed step option is automatically disappears after setting the multi to a certain value (so i guess it's disabled), spread spectrums are disabled as well. Already installed the latest BIOS. Any idea?

RAM: 4x2 GB CSX 800MHz

if you make ram @ 400mhz, and change the ratio between fsb and ram to 1:1, you should be able to run the fsb @ 400,

if you don't change this ratio, it will try to oc the ram to match the fsb speed, and usually that will cause issues

Not all Asus boards are made fpr overclocking. Some BIOS can set an FSB limit in the PLL chip at boot. 340 is a common setting for this purpose. For the OEM or IT markets a 95W CPU limit keeps the core 2 extremes out, and an FSB limit prevents overclocking.
Maybe you can get a hacked BIOS for it.
