I recently bought a Steam link and I was concerned about how to get everything connected to the internet. I'm very uneducated when it comes to networking , so bear with me. I use a powerline adapter in my room which is what connects to my PC. I recently bought a steam link and I wasn't sure how to get both my PC and the link connected to the internet using a wired connection. I read something about switches but I have no idea how to implement them using my set up. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! :)

General home network setup is as follows. ISP (cable, DSL) > Modem > Router > Switch (only if the router doesn't have enough ports) > Devices.

The Modem and Router are required, period. ISPs usually throw combo Modem/Routers at you for a monthly fee but you might also have them separate if you did it yourself or simply want better quality. The ISP units are usually cheap low quality units.

So for your setup you have a router which plugs into one end of the powerline adapter and then your PC plugs into the other end of the powerline adaptor. ISP > Modem > Router > Powerline> Devices
So to join your Steam Link to this network you simply need to either plug it into the router directly or use the Wifi (hard link is better).

Now if your router is not in the same room as the Steam Link and WiFi doesn't work either than you'd go back to the powerline. Some powerlines let you add more adaptors to their network, others do not. So you'll have to look up your specific model# to find out.

So I should buy another set of powerline adapters if I want a wired connection?

If the Link isn't in the same room as the router and you can't use WiFi. Again you'd have to check your powerline model# to see if it allows additional powerline adaptors to be added. You can't just add more adaptors at random, they'll interfere with each other unless they specifically state that more can be added.

Side note if the PC and Link are in the same room then you would use a switch. Powerline > Switch > Devices.

Yea so my link and PC would be in the same room. Any recommendations on a switch to buy?
