Hello everyone,
for the last week or so I started getting some massive fps drops in games. It happens very randomly, sometimes several times in a few minutes and sometimes once in 10 minutes. When it happens the fps drop very low and the whole game creeps to a halt for a few seconds (sometimes the sound as well).
This occurs the most in overwatch and quake champions. Until today it did not occur in BF1 but today it did with a massive freeze that lasted several seconds.
The things I tried so far:
- Deleted drivers with DDU and reinstalled the newest ones
- Updated windows with the latest updates
- Monitored temperatures while playing (never above 60°C) and
- opened the side panel when stutters occured to test if it was temperature related
- Changed the power settings in windows as well as nvidia controll panel to performance mode
- Increased the power and temperature limit of the GPU
- Closed all other applications while playing
- Disabled the iGPU (using it for my second monitor)
- Disabled DVR
- Ran numerous malware and adware scans including a full antivirus scan (found a few things but didn't help)
- Tried fixing game files in battle.net (for overwatch)
- Ran a memory test (did not find any problems)
I also ran an AIDA64 and FurMark stress test at the same time to see if it could be PSU related. The CPU didn't dip once during testing while the GPU usage did. Not sure what to think about that.
Here are some screenshots from MSI afterburner:
My pc specs:
i7 4790k
GTX 1060
8GB ram
Asus Z97 Pro Gamer mobo
sata ssd for windows
M.2 ssd for overwatch
HDD for quake
650W corsair PSU
