I have ALOT to learn about building pc's and what not, my current setup i put together years ago when I was younger and hardcore into it, and nowadays its eh...I am looking for a little boost in both speed (although mine is pretty quick) and definitely gaming performance. I can't even play beam.ng drive on full settings...this computer used to be an animal!! now the fans always run at full blast, its choppy sometimes and playing games with lower quality settings is less then fun...

My current specs are a Gateway DX-4000-09 case,
with an ASUS M4A78LT-M motherboard,
running an AMD Phenom II X4 965 processor,
a ATI Radeon HD 5700 graphics card, and 8gb of ram, powered by an Antec EA-650W supply.

Now,
What are my options on upgrading my current setup? Would it be a better idea to just upgrade my entire setup and start a new (very budget friendly) build? Would my motherboard and processor support a new graphics card well? Thanks in advance for your help!!

You can opt for a full new build with Ryzen 5 2600 and RX 580, with 2x4 GB DDR4 2666 RAM. Total about US$750 for full build.

But if you want to upgrade, under US$200 total, get 1100T, and RX 550. Else its not worth it

I think the GPU is hampering you. the 5700 is an older slower card.
my 955 black with an hd7950 is still gaming well at 1080p. I play pubg, cs:go, rocket league, Doom, serious sam 3, shadow warrior 2, DOA5, to name a few

Thanks for the prompt response, those are my thoughts exactly, Looking at the online comparisons it's really not holding up very well anymore, It was a good card years ago..lol.

As we speak I'm having trouble using my video editor, it's taking forever to cach the files, playback is choppy.... computer is heating up like crazy...I think its time to give it a good cleaning there must be some dust hiding in the fins of the cooling system.. and reapply thermal paste between the heatsync and the processor, because it only takes about 5 minutes of browsing the internet before this thing goes ape trying to cool itself down! Thanks in advance, still looking forward to hearing others input, but I'm definitely going to browse some good compatible graphics cards.
