Powerline Adapter or Wireless Wifi for gaming?

Hey everyone! Recently on most of my games, every 3 seconds, my ping would shoot up to 500, and then go down to about 20-50. This would continue for about 20 minutes to the point where it would be unplayable and just stop. I'm connected to the internet with a wifi card, and I was thinking of doing ethernet. However, my desktop is in another room than my router, so I can't do direct ethernet. This is why I was thinking of doing powerline.

I had a spare powerline adapter I was using for security cameras, and I hooked them up to my desktop for about a week. I tested the speeds of powerline and wifi, and I got pretty much the same upload/download speeds. However, my goal isn't to improve internet speeds but to fix my ping problem. I also was debating on whether to try to buy another wifi card, because that might be the issue. What do you guys think? Should I get powerline, stick with my connection, or try to get a new wifi adapter?

Solution
When you're using the spare Powerline adapter, does your ping behave weird as well? Because this doesn't really sound like a WiFi issue.

Generally if a Powerline connection is stable, I'd prefer it over WiFi

On powerline, my ping would be jumpy, but not as frequent and not as often. I also noticed slightly lower ping on the powerline, but I was reading online that when using powerline, the signal would cut off. This happened to me once and is also why I'm debating on whether to get it or not.

If your ping is still jumping around it might not be an issue of WiFi/Powerline but your modem or internet connection in general.

I've been using a Powerline setup for 7 years, not once was the signal cut off (except this one time when one of the adapters failed)

I think I will buy one and try it, and if it doesn't work I'll return it and try to see what else could be the problem.
