First time oc 5930k

I have a 5930k I got it to 4.6 and stoped because I wasn’t sure on how high you can push the voltage and for long term

I set the Asus mb to auto voltage and just started at 3.6 and kept going up till I got to 4.6 and the voltage was at 1.305v I read it would only last 6 months at 1.3 is that the case

Auto voltage is usually higher than it needs to be for stability. Find a stable OC with auto voltage on, then set it to manual, keep the clocks the same but drop the voltage by a small amount, then stress test for a bit. Rinse and repeat until you get a crash and go back 2 steps. Example > 4.6 on auto at 1.305 stable but hot. > Manual > 4.6 manual at 1.295 and stress, works > try for 1.285 > works > try for 1.275 > crashes > try for 1.280 > works > settle on 1.285.

Also when oc can’t you just start with a higher voltage to what the cpu is rated for then start to increase the clock speed say you have a older cpu

Max Vcore for the 5930K is 1.3V.

"When tweaking your processor near it's highest overclock, keep in mind that for an increase of 100 MHz, a corresponding increase of about 50 millivolts (0.050) is needed to maintain stability. If 70 millivolts (0.070) or more is needed for the next stable 100 MHz increase, it means your processor is overclocked beyond it's capability."
