My rental house is wired with ethernet in every room, problem is, it doesnt work. Ive tried connecting my modem to the wall, and a laptop directly into the switch, nothing. Also tried connecting the modem directly into the switch and then tested the rooms and again nothing. Im also pretty sure i even tested directly into the switch the modem, and laptop into same switch and didnt get anything. Is there some way for me to test if there is ANY signal at all getting through these switches? Ive contacted the land lord and they dont seem very interested in helping us resolve the issue (its a rental company hired by the owners, not the owners themselves)

Unfortunately your answer is right in front of you. At the top of the green circuit board. It says "Leviton Telephone". That is for distributing TELEPHONE connectivity not ethernet, so the blue cables are no use. The yellow cables go to an ethernet compatible plug bar, but they are not connected together or to anything else based on the picture.

You might be able to use the yellow wires and connect them to a real ethernet switch to make them function as ethernet. All you can do is try. But since none of the cables are labeled, it will be difficult to determine where they go. At least you know the color of the jacket that the cables for ethernet are supposed to be.

Yes it works directly plugged in, it also works when plugged into my router. What doesn't work is plugging the modem and/or router into the the wall jacks and getting any service out the other side

Do they all go to a patch panel or just wires out of the wall?
If it's a patch panel they may of had a switch and took it with them. if it's only a patch panel then you might want to pick up a 24p 1Gbs switch or what ever size.

sometimes there are lazy installs where they run 1 wire out and plug into multiple 4p switches.

Theres a switch box built into the wall, its impossible to fit a router and modem inside of it

What's the model of the switch?

Not entirely sure. there are 3 PCBs, the brand is Leviton. It looks like 2 main board then 2 expansion boards. the main board says Catagore 5e (cat 5 ethernet) and numbers E206420/1 then NE2000. The other 2 boards say expansion board and the number PWA 58705- PWB 58705-01

Are cables coming off the rooms crimped directly on those boards, or there are some intermediate connectors?
Post a picture of that "Switch box".

Its actually just a bunch of Ethernet cables. Some are labeled others arent. Actually only one of the "expansion" boards looks like it has something crimped, but im not sure what the source is

You should try the test with a pc plugged into a jack in one of the rooms and then keep plugging all those ethernet cables into the router until it works. On the yellow panel if that's a patch panel nothing is punched down in it. Not sure what's going on there. Do the yellow cables go up into the walls like they might be running to the wall jacks?
