No, the Core 2 Duo is not compatible with the H61 chipset. They have a completely different socket.

You can choose 2nd and 3rd-gen Intel Core i series CPUs. (and some Celeron and Pentium too, but I recommend Core i).

For heavy usage: i7 3770K is the best you can get on H61.

Moderate usage: i5 3670K / i5 2500K can provide great value. And can be really fast if overclocked.

Not overclocking, best value: i5 3670, i5 2500.

Best value for low end: i3 3120

Cheapest, lowest end: Celeron G 1810
