Ive put some old parts together for 2nd pc build and I put a gtx 970 but its being read as a r9 290 so im not even able to install gtx drivers. websites and stuff that scans my system like "can i run it" and etc scans that my gpu has 4gb which is a 970 and not an r9 but i dont know what happened to it (It was just sitting in my storage for a good 5months).

TJ Hooker is correct, clean install is the best. If anything though use DDU:

ALso can you upload an image of your GPU itself? There is no way I can think that a GPU can be seen as a completely different model from a different brand since the hardware ID is baked into the firmware and chip itself.

AMD is 1002 and nVidia is 10de (these are the PCIIDs that they are assigned, for example Intel is 8086)

My mistake, it was actually only seeing it as r9 200 series. and yes i did a clean install since im using a brand new ssd on this build and it doesnt have any other storages aside from that atm.

edit: my mistake again. upon taking it out and taking a picture of it. i jsut realized that it is indeed not my gtx 970. Im sorry! thank you for the help.. now i gotta find out where that 970 is >.>
