Hello there,

I am currently trying to install my 'Gigabye GT1030 low profile' graphics card into my HP 3300.

I have read a couple of conflicted instructions on when to change drivers.

Here is what I planned to do:

Insert graphics card
Start computer and remove OLD graphics driver (Intel HD)
Restart computer and install new graphics drivers.

However when I inserted the card and booted up, all I could get was the HP start screen and none of my USB ports were working so I could do nothing.

I have just removed the graphics card and logged on here hoping to get help, as my next plan would be to remove the old drivers first, then insert the card, and boot up and install the new drivers, but I don't know if it will allow me to do that.

Am I doing something wrong? Please advise.

Thanks
Carl.

Typically the drivers on the installation disc are older. There isn't anything wrong as such with installing them, but most will skip what's on the disc to install the newest available one. Given it's an integrated graphics chip I wouldn't remove the drivers. In that scenario I'd install the graphics card and install the driver for it. I don't see anything wrong with what you tried.

Some prebuilts may find new hardware troublesome. Checking around it seems like it goes back a while, which may mean the BIOS may not work well with newer hardware. This is ignoring the possibility of HP locking out hardware. It's a risk with some prebuilt PCs but not all.

During my search for more information I didn't see any results for a GT 1030 upgrade for the HP 3300. I also didn't see anyone mentioning the potential issues a prebuilt PC may have with upgrades in the thread you created previously.

That's the correct way to do it. You may have to go into the BIOS first and check the video settings. Some HP's have a setting you can change to tell it to use the PCI-e card as the main display port (instead of the on-board graphics adapter.)

Thanks very much for the help. I am going to try again but when I switched it on with the graphics card inserted I heard some 'Bleep' sounds when I first switch the computer on and none of my USB ports were working, so I could not use my keyboard or mouse

The "beep" sounds you heard was coming from the BIOS telling you there's an error. It will beep in a repeating pattern (maybe a couple of short beeps along with a couple of long beeps) What was the beeping pattern? That will tell you what's wrong. It's also possible that the video card isn't properly seated in the slot. Try removing it and re-inserting it.

Watched it. So I'm screwed?

When I switched on the PC with the graphics card inserted both the DVI (the original and the one in the graphics card) were both working, but I could go no further than the blue HP start up screen as the USB ports were not.

Cant afford a new PC, and I dont think I will be able to get a refund on this graphics card now that I have tried using it.

So what should I do, try and get a refund, or hang on to this graphics card and buy a different pre-build PC, or something custom built. I have paid £94 for this graphics card and that's a lot of money for me to spend on something like that.

I could hold on to the graphics card and perhaps buy a different PC in a month or so, and sell the HP. Is it worth doing that or should I try and get a refund?

The second link with the Antec 902 case is only the case, nothing else. The first link with the Dell is somethng you could consider. I would just make sure you don't have the same issue as Your HP.

I actually owned an Antec 900 case for years, was very happy with it. My advice is to stay away from that one. If you look at picture number 2, see the off-white circles in the front? It's supposed to be black, not off-white. That is actually YEARS of dust in those fans. I would guess that the owner never took care of his system and never bothered to clean it. Who knows how much life is left in those front fans. Here's what the tower is supposed to look like. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129097

My advice, don't let temptation get the best of you. Wait a little longer and save a little more money and get something you would be happy with.

Firstly, thanks very much for your time and the info, Mgallo, as I am sure you can imagine how I feel about this!

Yes, I was aware the Antec was a case only, but I was thinking about trying to build a computer from scratch. After what you've told me I definitely wont be buying that one.

The Dell looks like a good option, if it will fit with this graphics card, that way I could sell off the HP and I wont lose much at all.

Will contact them and consider buying it.

In fact, if you had not found that video so quickly last night, I would have tried everything to get this graphics card to work, so I would be sat here with no Intel HD drivers right now, and who knows what state my PC and the card would be in by the time I had given up, not to mention the whole night wasted trying to do it! Thanks again.

So months later, I have learnt that the HP 3300 apparently has PCI-2 slot, when it needs a PCI-3 to work with the Gigabyte GT1030.

Apparently the guy who made that video was also unaware of this. Surely such an expert should have known this?

So I have searched for the best graphics card for a PCI-2 slot and have come up with this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Zotac-ZT-71302-20L-GeForce-Express-Graphics/dp/B01AZ7W88O/ref=sr_1_4?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1538165462&sr=1-4&refinements=p_n_feature_keywords_browse-bin%3A1033593031&th=1

A 2gb GT710 with all the outputs I need. Worth the HDMI output alone for the £40 investment.

What do you guys think of this new information I have? Can anyone back it up, did the guy in the video already try a PCI-2 compatible card that didn't work?
