if I install 2 high end graphics cards would it increase my overall performance. I run z97p mobo i5 cpu 32gb ddr3 windows 10 pro. because of vision problems I use a 42 flat screen as my monitor.

As some others have mentioned in other similar threads, both SLI and Crossfire are kind of dying out.
In general, in titles that support it, you will get like 20 to 30% extra out of the 2nd graphics card. If there is no support for it by the title, you get no boost to performance or negative benefit.

Also as side note, physical size of screen doesn't mean anything, it's the pixel count, which at 42 (if it's not TV) is pretty likely the UHD/4K
which also means that as single card, you would need 1080Ti or something along that line.

A 42" TV is almost certainly 1080p. A single GTX 1060 from Nvidia or an RX 580 from AMD is plenty unless you have a high refresh rate ( 144Hz ) screen. Which a TV would not be.

It very well could be 4K. I'm lost in the past.

Yeah if it's 4K that changes things. What model is it?

Whether or not it's 4K display, if OP is saying the he/she needs a large 42" display due to vision issues, I'd really question the merits of spending big dollars to achieve smooth 4K gameplay. Unless you really want the additional clarity of 4K and are willing to pay big dollars to achieve it, I'd be recommending just outputting a 1080P signal and letting the display upscale.

@Bobives - what's your current graphics card? It's almost always better to upgrade to a better GPU than add a second card. If you tell us what card you have already and and what games (and settings) aren't running well for you, we should be able to make a few recommendations.

Do you have a specific budget?
