Burned Power Supply - What am I missing?

Hi all,

I recently returned from my vacation to my PC unable to power up. While I was away, my dog sitter called to tell me that there was a "plasticky, almost sweet" smell coming from my PC. I asked her to unplug it immediately, thinking I'd take a look at it when I got back.

When I got back and plugged it back in, the PC was non-responsive. I checked the voltage indicator, and saw no issues.

I replaced the PSU and all of the cables, and was then able to get power to the computer. The MB LED lights switched on, the CPU, Case Fans and lights all powered up.

Once I connected a monitor, I saw the following error: "EFI Shell Version 2.40 Map: Cannot find required map."

After doing some research, it looks like this has something to do with the MB's ability to recognize and read the SSD and/or HDD.

I’ve swapped the SATA PSU Cables in and out of each of the PSU ports designated for SATA, as well as each of the SATA ports on the MB, but continue to see the same error. Here are my hypotheses on what may be happening:

• Everything on the MB is still functional, with the exception of the SATA ports. I don’t think that this is very likely – I would think that if it’s a MB problem, none of it would work
o I even removed one of the RAM sticks to test it, and immediately on reboot, received the message stating that the machine’s memory had been changed.
• SATA Cables for data are no longer operational. I’ve ordered a few from Amazon to test this theory.
• The drives are toast. Power is reaching them fine and no SATA cable issues are present, but the drives are no longer operational and so they sit. I don’t think this would be it either, though, because if they were receiving power, my HDD would at least give some indication that it is spinning, or I’d feel it when it kicked on or was turned off.

I guess my question is, what am I missing? What else can I test??? I’ve listed the PC’s specs below.

• GPU: GTX 1080
• MB: MSI Gaming Z170A
• CPU: Intel Core i7-6700
• RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 8GB x4
• HDD: WD Black 3TB Performance 7200 RPM
• SSD: SanDisk 240GB SSD
• Power Supply: Recently Changed from Corsair RM 750x to EVGA G1+ 1000 WATT 80PLUS GOLD
• Case: Thermaltake Chaser Series Chaser MK-I

Thanks!
