New gaming build issues

I built a new desktop a couple of weeks ago and feel like I am having performance issues I should not.

Build:

i7-7700k
GA-Z270-HD3 LGA 1151 ATX Intel Motherboard
1080ti
16gb ram (I accidently purchased one stick of 16 instead of 2x8, not sure if this is the problem)
250 gb SSD
750w power supply

I built this pc so I could game and stream at the same time. I was having issues doing both on the desktop, which I thought was odd in the first place considering the specs. I purchased an Elgato HD60s from best buy to stream through my other rig to see if that solved my issues, it did not. In a simple game like fortnite I will drop down to 50 frames at times and I know the 1080ti can run fortnite at ultra 250 frames, so I am not sure if I have settings wrong or what.

I lack any real computer knowledge on solving this easily so I am hoping someone can give me tips on tests to run or issues to look for.

thank you

Doesn’t seem any different than 60. At times I even get some frame drops without streaming. I did a GPU test, it scored above all the examples outside of dual card setups.

Yes 7700K is not very good but is decent and fine. Point here is that he is using different PC to stream which should not effect the CPU. For RAM he has single stick instead of duel but as I said before if that had to effect the performance it would have dropped fps even while gaming but this problem is only faced while streaming for which he again is using a different PC.

I will try again tonight but the issue is Fortnite comes out of the Epic games launcher. I ran the launcher as admin but it did not work.

So if I got the 8700k I'd be set?

I would have agreed that going for better CPU like 8700K can solve your problem. But after you having same problem even while streaming through different PC I am not sure if it is CPU that is causing the problem. Before spending on CPU upgrade I recommend trying all possible ways. Did you try to cap in game fps to 120.

I will try that this evening, I am currently capped at 144. A game like PUBG that I'm told is CPU intensive, runs pretty crappy and completely unstreamable with my current setup. I figured from what I read online I should be able to stream from the same rig with a new build (I dropped the ball on the wrong CPU obviously, lol). The hassle of audio going from the gaming rig to streaming rig makes wanting to use one PC a dream, if possible. I am completely fine going to the 8700k if that will be a massive upgrade, which it seems to be due to the extra two threads?
