Connect Ethernet Cable to my PC

So my router is placed in the basement of the house, I want to connect an Ethernet cable to my PC, on the first floor. There seems to be a coax cable that is coming out the wall in my room, I was thinking of getting a router that is capable of 1 GB/s and then connecting an Ethernet cable from there to my PC. Is that a good idea or is there a better plan for this?

If you're only wired for Coax in the room specifically (and provided the Coax is actually connected to your existing wiring) then yes, that should work.

You may have to configure the secondary router (disable it's Wifi radios, assign a static IP etc).... but totally doable.

Alternatives would be things like PowerLine adapters, but those can be quite varied in quality, and depend on short runs & quality electrical wiring in your house...

I'm assuming the router in the basement is a combination modem/router? And you're talking about moving it to your room? That would work. Getting a 2nd modem/router and installing it in your room while the one downstairs is still operating would not work.

Or are you talking about using ethernet over coax adapters?
