About to go crazy trying to get this microphone to work!

Hello,
So a couple days ago I posted because the sound jack on my MB seemed to be broken, which someone suggested to get a USB sound adapter to bypass the jack on the board.(here's a link for reference http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-3738884/problem-microphone-headphone-jack-build.html)

Well it worked great for the audio on my headset, but I couldn't get the mic on the headset to work no matter what I did. I reinstalled drivers, messed with every settings menu imaginable, went online and followed video tutorials, you name it.
When I first plug the mic into the jack there is an audio spike, so I assumed I had got a bad USB adapter, so I exchanged it for another brand.
I just got this new adapter home and it's the same problem! There's an audio spike when I plug it into the adapter, but other than that I can't get it to work.
If I plug the headset into my laptop, the microphone works fine, so this issue is isolated to this system.
I even tried booting the computer up on Linux and messing with those settings, but it's the same issue. I get an audio spike when I plug it in, but no matter what I do with the settings, it wont work.

Any idea what on earth the problem could be?:??:

You can try this one. But before you go buying yet another adapter. Check to make sure all drivers are installed properly and up to date.

Hi Simply;
I was hoping that might be it, but after trying 3 different ports on the back panel, the problem still persists :(
This is really bizarre. I've searched the internet high and low too and can't seem to find anyone having an issue quite like this

Okay I tried the laptop again and it turns out I was only getting a sound reading on there from the internal Mic. When I plug the mic into the USB adapter and select it on the settings, it's not picking anything up on my laptop either...so that would suggest the issue is likely with the USB adapter and the headset...

it's possible that it could be the adapter, but seeing as how you swapped out for another one and it being a completely different brand on top of that, I would say it's the headset itself. If you have any other headsets lying around or have a friend or family member with one you can borrow to test this then please do so to confirm before making any decisions to go and buy new hardware.

I don't think it's the headset itself, because I tried it on my other laptop using the built in jack and the microphone works...but as soon as I try plugging it in to the USB adapter and switching the settings over to use the adapter, only the headphones work and not the mic.
Like you said I think it's also unlikely that both of the USB adapters I tried are malfunctioning.

I'm really at a loss. I hate to throw money at the problem, but it's looking like I may need to just buy another motherboard after all to get it working.

This also might depend on the adapter. Could've been the same exact thing just rebranded from some cheap chinese manufacturer. What adapters did you buy?

What system are you using (if it's a pre built) otherwise, does your system have front panel audio connectors for both mic and sound? If so, try using those ports directly with the headset. If not, then please let us know what adapters you used and it's possible they are just both shitty adapters and we can recommend you a better one.

I built the computer back in august. it's a corsair spec ops case that only has a hookup for audio on the front panel. I also tried disabling it in the settings in case that was interfering with the USB. I even tried uninstalling all other audio drivers aside from the USB adapter.

these are the adapters I purchased:
