There isn't an expiration date on these things. Okay, maybe technically there is I have heard of them dying within 6 months, a little over a year and longer. Still others will last a decade or longer. There are many tests out there like https://techreport.com/review/27909/the-ssd-endurance-experiment-theyre-all-dead but in the end I don't know.

Don't defrag it. Windows will TRIM it for you.

Don't put any movies on there if you can avoid it. Movies don't benefit from the faster read and write speeds of a SSD. PC games however do benefit so those are dine to install to an SSD. If you are using something that requires real time input, such as Photoshop your SSD is a good place to install to. Things like movies and books don't need...

"Longer" is completely unknown as of yet.
"Long" ? Yes.

I have 2x 840's. The eldest is currently at 39,010 power on hours. 1625+ days.

The other one only slightly fewer hours.

But if you're buying a "new" drive, get a current one. 860 EVO, for instance.

Most SSD's come with their own management software.

Take a look at it's health everyday or at least every few days. You can see its health status and temp and much more. Being caught unaware can be costly. Very.

Overwriting (for security reasons) with something like CCleaner is no longer necessary.

Leave about 10% free. Keep in mind what you will be using your SSD for in addition to that. If you're a gamer a 500GB or larger SSD is what I recommend. With the file size of games today it can fill very fast.

Making sure it has the manufacturer's latest firmware can help avoid known issues.

For ADVANCED users - Move your paging file over to another HDD.

Have plenty of RAM. 16GB is recommended these days.
