Cheap USB soundcard broke Modmic?

So I had a Modmic 4 that I decided to plug into this really cheap USB soundcard (literally a $3 piece of junk). And I believe it broke the modmic. I had been using the modmic for two weeks and was very happy with its sound quality.

When I plugged the mic in, it sounded really muffled and low, so I just said screw it and switched back to my old usb soundcard, but it still sounded muffled and low. I thought that was strange, so I tested it by plugging it into my computer's mic in (which is staticky), but same issue. Tested it on another computer and still muffled and low.

What on earth could have happened? I'm no electrician so I don't know if that crappy soundcard could have shorted something or whatnot. I threw the soundcard in the garbage and am in the process of returning the modmic to Amazon.

I cleaned it yeah. I didn't touch any other settings because the mic sounded perfect before I plugged it into the soundcard, so I don't think it was windows causing any problems. I also tested it on another PC and with another soundcard, same issue.

Perhaps the port on the cheap soundcard damaged the jack somehow?

It was a really cheap crappy soundcard though, this one (https://www.amazon.com/SaiTech-Pack-USB-Sound-Channel/dp/B00VWLITB8/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1531144871&sr=8-6&keywords=3d+usb+soundcard#customerReviews)

I returned the mic to amazon since I only had it for two weeks, was just curious to see if anyone knew what could have happened.
