Hi

My network(pc's) "network and shearing center" say the ethernet is unid'd and public. How do i chaing it to privite so I can shear my sheard net drivices again ?

I have reset my win 10 and win 7.
I tryed seting up new network but nither computer got past the set up a network window. It s just blank stating might take longer than 90 sec to unconfig divices on network.
culd not fix it.

I can only acses each other thru wifi. Is thear a way to force it to only use eachother thru ethernet ?

That should work for windows 10, for wireless it is the same but instead of ethernet, there should be wifi

for windows 7, changing network type should be simple also,

It dosnt give me that option. Pc will not let me make a new network. It just haings and does nuthing.

There could be some causes as to why windows is unable to figure out if network you are connected to is private or public.
according to google, most often windows network troubleshooting (that status page above network/wifi should have option for it) can fix that issue.
another possible reason are old network card drivers but... that is doubtful if things worked before, unless windows updated them. Microsoft has bad habit of not always following "If it's not broken, don't touch it" policy.
Thus:
1. Try network troubleshooter
2. Reinstall network card drivers

Another reason might be oddly configured/set up routers you mentioned in other post where unknown phones connect and are visible on the network.
pretty much all networks consist of Modem (or modem/router combo) and then either router for wifi's or multiple routers.
if there are more than one after modem (or any after modem/router combo) you need to be careful about setting up rest of routers so that you don't end up with two NAT's after each other.
This could in theory mean that if you are in apartment and apartment provides WIFI and you have your router connected through LAN and it is in bridge mode, said phones and your "private" network is bridged to whole apartment. both ways.
making both identifying network bit hard for windows and explains extra odd phones.(unless wifi is without password or using something too simple like 12345)

1) Network troubleshooter cant find a problem.
2)I uninstal from managment. Than scand for new hard wear and the drivers wer back emediatly. no time for downloading. Kinda odd.

I live out in the midel of no wear so no nabers brodcast can be seen.

As far as the phones. Thay shuld not evan beabel to be on my network. I chainged the privit net pasword and the phone showed back up. I thaink some one is ip spofing remoitly. I had all my divices powerd off and router log show'd my pc ip on it "Dos ipspoph ....blabalbla" about every 9-16 minits.

ok so.. I had to set up public to get the popup option to chaing net work to privit.Got the the networks to see eachother but It dos not say if its privit or publick . just unknown network :(

never mind after reseting pc's it went back to my original problem.
But now I can't share files over the wifi..
only win10 can see win7's sheard divices

omg. Idk what to do. I pluged in ether net and now my divices can work over wifi..AAHH
