Hey guys! I'm in the market for a new rig and I wanted to come to you folks and get your opinion.

1) Which rig do you think would be better for gaming/3D CAD modeling, and relatively intensive CPU usage with excel and other software?

2) Any recommendations? Any pieces to add, switch out, etc.?

1st build (AMD):
AMD RYZEN 7 1700X 3.4 GHz (3.8 GHz Turbo) Socket
Asus PRIME X370-A AM4 Ryzen DDR4 ATX Motherboard
Crucial Ballistix Sport LT 32GB 2x16GB 2400 BLS2K1
Microsoft FQC-08930 Windows 10 Pro OS 64-bit OEM
Antec NeoECO NE650M 650W PSU Modular 80-Plus
Crucial MX500 CT250MX500SSD1 250GB 2.5" SATA 6Gbps
MSI GEFORCE GTX 1070TI DUKE 8GB GDDR5 Graphics
Cooler Master Hyper 212 LED CPU Cooler

2nd build (Intel):
Intel Core i5-8600 6C/6T Up To 4.3GHz LGA-1151 9MB
Asus Z370-P LGA1151 Intel Z370 Gen8 Only DDR4
Crucial Ballistix Sport LT 32GB 2x16GB 2400 BLS2K1
Microsoft FQC-08930 Windows 10 Pro OS 64-bit OEM
Antec NeoECO NE650M 650W PSU Modular 80-Plus
Corsair CC-9011075-WW Carbide Series 100R Mid-Towe
Crucial MX500 CT250MX500SSD1 250GB 2.5" SATA 6Gbps
MSI GEFORCE GTX 1070TI DUKE 8GB GDDR5 Graphics
Cooler Master Hyper 212 LED CPU Cooler

Approximate Purchase Date: As soon as possible

Budget Range: $1,750 after tax and shipping

System Usage from Most to Least Important: 2D/3D CAD, intensive excel spreadsheets, gaming, internet browsing with an extreme amount of tabs

Are you buying a monitor: Yes, 3 monitors - I'd like three monitors for my current rig but I'll purchase them outside of the budget.

Parts to Upgrade: N/A - new system.

Do you need to buy OS: Yes, OEM Windows 10

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: N/A - all are fine.

Location: San Francisco, CA, USA

Parts Preferences: N/A - whatever you guys think is best.

Overclocking: Maybe

SLI or Crossfire: Probably not, atleast not yet.

Your Monitor Resolution: I'd like a minimum of 3 x 1920x1080.

Additional Comments: Quiet, fan-cooled.

Thanks,
RMassoudi

Looks good, if it was me id get a 500GB SSD instead of a 250GB though. I also have had that brand of 3TB drive fail me frequently. I recommend WD "Black" for mechanical drives. So about $150 more would be perfect config IMO.
Go for the Ryzen 2700 2700x , about the same price, better memory support and better cross core latency means much better performance in memory sensitive tasks.

For CAD it depend on the software for threaded support. If it supports more cores the Ryzen system is a no brainer.
Gaming will be about the same if you wide screen the monitors. or a little better on the Intel system with one monitor.

EVGA SC GTX 1080 comes with free EVGA 650W Gold Modular PSU currently from Newegg. Id get the Ryzen 7 2700X with included cooler that is comparable to the Coolermaster, ASUS Prime X470 mobo, 32GB DDR4 3200 RAM not 2400. You'l have plenty left over to get an NVMe SSD instead of the Crucial. Samsung 970 EVO and WD "Black" are very nice choices.
