Current: desktop

As cryoburner said, both machines seem to be slow in today's standards, so there won't be much of a difference if you get that laptop. If your cousin is giving the laptop to you for free, there's nothing to lose. However, if it costs you, I would save up some money to get something much better.
To answer your original question, the laptop, in terms of specs, will be faster than your current setup...
The CPU performance should be fairly similar between both systems, which is to say rather slow by today's standards. The Celeron 2957U likely has much more-capable integrated graphics than what your existing system has though. However, Those integrated graphics are still quite low-end, and I agree that it would probably be worth saving up for something better.

Well I forgot to mention but, a cousin was giving it away and offered it to me knowing that my current one is trash. I wanted to know which is better for gaming. So I can accept it if it is if not I won’t.

Thanks for replying

If your existing system only has GeForce 7100/nForce 630i graphics, than I'm pretty sure that at least the integrated graphics in the Celeron 2957U should be quite a bit faster. Those are still some rather low specs, and you probably still won't be able to run most recent games, but I believe they should be an improvement over what you currently have.

To answer your original question, the laptop, in terms of specs, will be faster than your current setup, but not fast enough to notice a good performance increase.
