Hi guys,

I downloaded this software called CPU-Z to bench test my CPU as I've been getting a lot FPS drops when gaming whilst streaming on OBS. My CPU is an i7-8700k 3.70GHZ. The results came out as follows:

CPU Single Thread: 512.7
CPU Multi Thread: 3871.9

Multi Thread ratio: 7.55

I'll be honest I have no idea what these numbers mean, maybe you can enlighten me? And also, can you let me know if this is normal? As there may be a problem with my CPU. Bare in mind I haven't overclocked this CPU at all,

Thanks!

Are you getting frame drops when not streaming? You didn't mention.

If you don't get frame drops when you play without OBS streaming, and you do get frame drops when OBS streaming, obviously it's your OBS settings.

Bottom line is, the 8700k may be a relatively new CPU but it can easily struggle with OBS streaming if your settings are too ambitious.

Nope its as soon as I launch OBS the frames drop. I just set the frame speed for OBS streaming to "30FPS" and was able to achieve 100+ FPS in-game. I just assumed like you said the 8700k shouldn't be having these problems but I guess it still can :D

8700k is a great CPU, but software encoding of video can bring even stronger machines to their knees, so to speak. This is the primary reason solutions like NVIDIA's Shadowplay and AMD's Relive exist, along with myriad other hardware encoding options. Unfortunately, the solutions from AMD and NVIDIA don't always produce the desired quality level, but if quality is not a deal breaker, I would certainly evaluate whichever branded solution is available. They would definitely lighten the workload the CPU is dealing with.
