Computer restarts when playing games

My computer sometimes turns off then restarts itself when I am playing games. It seems like it only happens when something intense happens (two planets exploding in universe simulator and battle in Witcher 3).

Intel - Core i5-8400 2.8GHz 6-Core Processor
ASRock - Z370M Pro4 Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
Corsair - Vengeance LPX 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory
Samsung - 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
Western Digital - Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Gigabyte - GeForce GTX 960 2GB Video Card
Cooler Master - N200 MicroATX Mini Tower Case
EVGA - 500W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply

Solution
Most likely the PSU is bad, but frankly no 'test' can really tell you if it's bad or not. Check Event Viewer for the error that is thrown when your PC reboots. If it is a Kernel Power error then most probably it's your power supply that needs replacement.

This could be PSU related. You mentioned that it happens during intense moments in some games. it's at those points that your GPU will likely draw more power. The PSU you have is actually pretty good, but it may be cutting it close to the maximum draw of the system. How old is your PSU as well? Most should be replaced after a few years of sustained/heavy use.

As the above person suggested running Prime95 is going to help you diagnose the problem, its a great start it will stress the CPU and you can identify if that's where the problem is or eliminate it from the list. I'd also look into running a graphical benchmark too that will stress your GPU maybe something like unigine's superposition. It's also possible that your GPU may have developed a fault, do you have a spare that you can test out in its place?

Sadly I don’t have a replacement that I could test with. I have run cpu stress tests but I can try more. I’ll try and go for a gpu test next. Is there any way I could run a diagnostic on my psu, which is about 5-6 years old by the way.

Okay, I ran it for about 4 mins. I stopped it to come here and ask if there is anything I should look out for while testing. I am going to continue to have it run for a while especially because my temps were fine.

Yeah it does so is that a guarantee for the issue.

Yes, a bad PSU, when causing problems, can indeed damage other components by delivering bad power to them. It is entirely possible, so if you've been using the PC with the bad power supply and just 'bearing' with the restarts, I would suggest stopping that immediately. Don't use the PC until you have a reliable PSU.

Well crap. I have done that a little bit most of the restarts came when I was trying to trouble shoot the issue. It happened maybe around 10 times in total from the past 2 weeks.
