Over clocking 8700k with MSI z370 PC pro

hello guys,

Let just quickly point out im not very good when it comes to over clocking. I know the process to over clock but all the tiny details im lost. I just wanted to know if i would be able to over clock my 8700k to 4.5ghz (base) at 1.35 Volts on my MSI z370 PC pro MoBo. My cooler is the corsair h100i V2. Oh and i've got 16gb DDR4 ram. If anyone can help be over clock that i would greatly appreciate it.

Hi, voltage and overclock potential depends on your CPU build quality (your luck), In OC tab, OC Explore mode = Expert, set your VCore voltage to AUTO (if you have changed it manually), "CPU Ratio Apply Mode = All cores" then change "CPU ratio" just below that to 45. Then stress test it for some time, if your system doesn't crash it's probably stable. You can also use your bios AUTO voltage as a reference and manually decrease it till it becomes unstable as lower voltages give lower temps.

Temps below 80c are safe, you have watercooling, because of that, you have to stress test for a longer time till the water heats up.

alright thanks for that, in terms of stress testing what programs other than cinebench would you recommend or should i just stick to cinebench?

Cinebench is for benchmarking. For stress testing AIDA64 (FPU stress testing) is considered the standard software, but you can also use IntelBurnTest and or any other popular software you like. Just remember, stress testing puts unreasonable loads on your pc just for stablility and temps, you will most likely not reach them normally.

ok, ill get that installed later. I'll watch a couple of YT videos just to make sure I don't stuff this up.

How high were you able to push that MoBo? I'm getting one of these in the mail soon and I was hoping I could hit a 4.7-4.8. I have a 280mm AIO on my set up.
