2 LANs sharing 1 FreeNAS

Me and my friend are looking to share a FreeNAS server between us so we can share files. His network is located about 1/2 a mile away (800 metres) so it will not be possible to connect via ethernet or a NIC (obviously).

Im looking for a way to share the FreeNAS between us both basically. The storage will be located at my place so 1/2 a mile away from his network.

I am quite new to networks so please keep any answers as simple as possible.

You can mount a SFTP locally.

If you're doing media mainly look into plex.

If you are in a rural area, point to point WIFI, else house1 --> Internet --> house2, limited by bandwidth of your Internet services.

Thanks for your answers guys. I live in an urban area so i will probably access the server like a normal NAS and then my friend will have to have a permanent "remote access setup" to the NAS. Once again, thanks for your answers.
