What would it look like on a game like skyrim? Would it be really shard and detailed or are textures above 1k or 1080p incompatible?

Solution
You can only display 1440p or 4k via VSR or DSR on a 1080p monitor, but as long as you have the GPU power to support it, it will look quite a bit better. In visual quality and performance it almost identically matches 1440p and 2160p on displays that handle those resolutions natively.

That means you need the same GPU power that's required for actual 1440p and 2160p displays to run 1440p or 2160p DSR or VSR. Thus with VSR/DSR, you can't really assess what a GPU upgrade will look like, just what a display upgrade will look like, IF you already have the GPU power.

However the nice thing is there's less jaggies, so you may not even need to use AA. Lastly, there's no worries about anything non native, because you're still running at the...

That said, you cannot see what it will look like by watching YouTube videos that are played in DSR/VSR, but captured in 1080p. That is because YouTube always uses a flat bitrate for 1080p uploads that is much lower than what it uses for actual 1440p or 2160p uploads.
