Hello,

I am experiencing random freezes with my gaming PC. My spec is as follows:

CPU: AMD - FX-9590 4.7GHz 8-Core
CPU Cooler: Corsair - H100i v2 70.7 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
Motherboard: Asus - M5A99FX PRO R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard
Memory: Corsair - Vengeance 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
Storage: Kingston - Predator 240GB PCI-E Solid State Drive
Video Card: EVGA - GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB FTW ACX 2.0+ Video Card
Power Supply: EVGA - SuperNOVA G3 (EU) 1000W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply

So my wonderful gaming PC had been running fine for 2 years but it has developed a problem i am hoping to discuss with everyone. My PC will random frezze and force me to restart my PC. For quite a while i had the CPU overclock by the ASUS auto clocking tool. Now if i go into the bios settings and set the ASUS simple UEFI profile to performance my PC will freeze on booting into windows or just after loading the login screen.

I have to set my ASUS profile to normal to get the PC to function normally however every so often it will frezze when i am in the middle of a gaming session (generally when the PC is under load.)

I have spent many hours researching into the problem but i have not turned anything up or made any progress on the issue

So it brings me to here to find out if this forum can help me any further before i replace the hardware.

Solution
If it works fine for another few days then congratulations, Freezing issues usually mean instability with voltage. Turbo is just a fancy name for auto-overclock and Cool 'n' Quiet is another name for under-volting/clocking.

Hi, as pc hardware ages, they start needing more voltage to retain the same performance. It could also mean instability with your overclock. Uninstall Auto overclocking software if you have any, don't use the predefined setting like asus performance or power saving, reset your bios. If it crashes again, increase your core voltage manually from bios.

It could also be your RAM. Try using just one, see if it makes any difference.

Thanks for your input after doing further research on the internet i have found quite a few people experiencing similar issues as myself. The result has given me a few settings to try in the bios.

At the moment the bios settings are set to default with no overclocking active at al and it will still randomly crash during a gaming session.

I will try as you have advised tonight and increase my core voltage.

I can see people with alot of problems with this motherboard and processor. I'm going to list the things i will try tonight:

Disable turbo mode / High Performance Computing.
AMD Cool 'n' Quiet, Core C6 State, HPC Mode.
Enabling/Disabling the AMD Turbo Core Technology
Check CPU Voltages (If under 1.5 reported as an issue.)
try UnderClocking.
try increasing the voltage to the core.

So touch wood it appears to be stable for my first gaming session this evening. Around 6/7 hours.

I found this video on YT https://youtu.be/gtF8AZVkUuA

So i did the following in the BIOS: Defaulted the settings and then Disabled Turbo, disabled cool n quiet, disabled svm, disabled core c6 state, disabled C1E.
