Hello,

CPU-Z says I have a Kingston HyperX 2666MHz CL 17 2x4 . I would like to buy the same RAM to upgrade to 16GB but the store that sells PC components in my country has the same version but with a timing of CL15 and I can not find the same 2x4 kit I have. If I were to buy the CL15 kit, that is the same as the CL17, would they work??

EDIT: OK just checked the BIOS, there it says CL 15 and now it says CL15 in CPU-Z, I am really confused :D

Solution
The CL timings will depend on the XMP profile enabled (or manually configured).

Mixing & matching RAM, even if it's the same brand/modules/timings/speed, is still a mixed bag re: results.

The "perfect" solution would be to sell your current 2x4GB kit and replace with a 2x8GB kit, sold together in retail packaging - they've been verified to work together.

Failing that, aiming for the best match re: speed/timings etc is your best chance of success. Sometimes it just "works", other times it doesn't.

If it doesn't, manually configuring timings or (slightly) boosting voltage can sometimes work..... but no guarantees.

Either way, if you look to add rather than replace, try to purchase from somewhere with a solid return policy.
