So I have 2 ram memory sticks (2x4gb)(2400mhz) and thinking of adding extra ram, I would be buying either 1x8gb (2400mhz) same brand as my dual kit or another 4gb ram stick, I don't know much about dual channel so what kind of performance will I be expecting if I use 3 ram sticks

Specs:
Ryzen 3 2200g
Asus prime b350m-a
Kingston hyperx (2x4gb, 2400mhz)

If your current computer usage requires more than the currently available 8GB of RAM, then adding additional RAM will likely offset the switch from dual channel to single channel, adding only a 3rd RAM module would create. I'd make the following recommendations, in order:

1) Replace what you have with 2x8GB RAM modules. Extra RAM and no compatibility issues.
2) Add an 2x4GB kit, identical to the kit you already have installed. There is still a chance of incompatibility which is why I make my first recommendation.
3) Add what you want/need and pray for the best.

Memory is guaranteed in the form sold. There are no guarantees for other combinations you make.

What to expect - memory is combinations other than form in which they are sold may no longer be operate at rated specifications or the PC may not boot. Since the combinations have never been tested before there are no guarantees how they will work if the PC boots up.
