Hi all, looking to upgrade my video card, but I'm on a budget.

Right now, I have an HD7790OC @ 2Gb.

At the price point I'm looking at,(about what I paid for the current card 4 yrs ago) I'm seeing 3 options:

GT 1030 @ 4Gb

RX 560 @ 4Gb

GTX 1050 @ 2Gb

Which one of these would be best for gaming, or are they even enough of an upgrade to be worth spending on?

Basically, I'm just single-screen gaming, and not looking for any more than 1080p.

GT 1030 was there just because of the 4Gb.

So, (and I profess ignorance here) is the faster card still better, even with half the memory? And is it going to give me the opportunity to play newer games that the HD7790 doesn't quite meet the minimum reqs for?

Keep in mind that as long as I can get a newer game to run smooth, I don't mind playing on lower graphics.

Ok, I forgot to convert to $CDN, so no 1050ti. :(

So it looks like it's between 2Gb GT1050, and 4Gb RX 560.

I looked at the review here on the 560, and the results seem pretty similar to the 1050.

Would you recommend one over the other, and why?

There's only a very small difference in power draw between them (75W vs 80W TDP).

If you have a monitor with FreeSync, then I'd definitely go the AMD route, whereas if you have a GSync monitor, then go the Nvidia route. If neither, then ignore this point.

Also, given that it's been some time since the RX560 review (if I recall correctly), AMD may well have tweaked a little more performance out of it with later driver revisions - something they tend to do. Not sure if the same can be said for the Nvidia side or not.

I do suspect that the 2Gb of the 1050 might be a problematic factor with some games.

At the moment, assuming you're fine with dealing with a mail in rebate, the cheapest one available is an MSI RX560 in Canada.
