it depends on how the unit is assembled. the drive may be soldered to the logic board. in that case no.
backup any data you want first some devices encrypt the drive and the data will be unreadable if removed. plan for the worst.
if the drive is SATA, there should not be any reason why you cannot take the drive and make it an external.
