i have a windows xp laptop that is very old the reasons to keep it are shrinking by the day as devs choose to abandon support for it with the biggest blow being steam some time next year i am bored of windows and its various associated problems (tbh i just hate 10 plain and simple) however im getting off topic this pc is very old im talking core 2 duo 2.1 ghz 4gb of ram 160gb hdd so what is the best "distro" or version whatever you wanna call it for this very old hardware this would be my first install of linux so please go easy on me i know there are some very passionate Linux users out there but as of right now im a beginner again

"Well" is very subjective criteria. For tipping your toes in Linux - that's more than OK. As your main daily driver - not so much.

Keep in mind that on hardware that old, any modern browser will choke with modern content, and older browsers probably wont render modern content correctly.

The system requirements are listed as the same for all Mint 19 editions, which your machine falls within, so it comes down which desktop environment you like the most. The only way to tell, try them. I'd recommend starting with Cinnamon.
