[HELP] swapping components between 2 PC's

Hey everyone, so i bought a second hand comp for my GF to use but i want to take some of the components (mobo, cpu, PSU, ram, [ssd maybe??Depending on how complicated it would be]) and put it into my current PC. Essentially I want to upgrade my own rig with the parts in the other PC while keeping the case I already have.

My gf doesn't want my old PC case or else i would have just swapped the GPU and storage but she doesn't so i have to swap out my parts and put it into her newer case. I'm just wondering what's my smoothest path so I don't fk shit up, like should I clean install both ssds then swap the SSDS aswell so there's no drivers installed for the mobo, gpu etc..
Or is it okay to keep the SSDs with the OS in their cases and just swap the mobo PSU cpu ram etc.. however I feel this will run into compatibility issues with drivers and such.. im also worried about how windows 10 will react, not sure if I'm going to have to reinstall them or not. My main computer was previously windows 8 but upgraded to 10 and I'm not sure about the other computer I just bought. Also worried about motherboard BIOS updates after I've switched, Will I have to reflash or will they stay updated?

Just to clarify I'll be leaving the corsair h100i water cooler in there. The specs just in case

New comp ill be taking the parts from:
CPU : I7 6700k (swapping)
MOBO : Asus z170 pro (swapping)
GPU : Gtx 980 (leaving)
RAM : Corsair ddr4 4x4gb (swapping)
CPI COOLER: Corsair h100i AIO cooler (leaving)
PSU : Corsair RM850i (swapping)
SSD with operating system (possibly leaving)
2 clean HDDS (swapping)

This my main PC which ill be putting inside my GF's case
CPU : I5 4690k
GPU : gtx1080 (LEAVING)
MOBO :z97x gaming 3
RAM: Corsair ddr3 2x8gb
CPU COOLER: coolermaster 212evo cooler (LEAVING)
SSD with operating (leaving?)
2 clean HDD (swapping )

Thanks :))

The basic thing is...keep the drive and OS with its original motherboard.
Anything other than that increases the level of fail and pain.

There is an impossible config in there. Z97 doesn't support the non-existent i5-6700k. It would have to be a 4th Gen CPU.

Either way, I don't quite get what your little charts mean.

If I take your meaning: You have purchased an i7-6700k based system and you want it for yourself? And the old system goes in the new case?

It isn't wise to swap the OS drives away from their hardware, that can create complications. But it might work. Ideally you would take backups of the systems just in case it doesn't. Or do fresh installs of the OS on the new configurations. Make sure the OS is registered to Microsoft with an e-mail address before doing this.

We can give out further advice when the hardware list is conclusive. Go ahead and list out the starting hardware of each system and your proposed config for each system. I have a feeling something isn't going to quite line up.

must've typod haha, let me correct them. it's actually an i5 4690k.. and yes, youre correct I do want the i7 based sysyem.
Anyway what I'm proposing the end system become are

System 1: I5 4690k +z97 + gtx 980 + h100i + cs550m PSU + ddr3.

System 2: i7 6700k+ z170 + gtx 1080 + hyper212+ rm850i+ ddr4.

Reading your answers seems its best just keeping their respective SSDS together would be my best bet?

Another question, I've pulled a clean ssd from one of the systems and i want to put that in my laptop and use it as the new main drive, how should I go about it

Now we go into details about the laptop and the drives and space.

What OS?
What type of drives? 2.5" SATA, m.2 SATA, NVMe SATA?
How much space is consumed on the current drive?
How big is the new SSD?

The OS was originally windows 8 but i upgraded for free.
The SSD drive is 2.5" SATA Samsung 850 EVO 250GB.
i think the laptop is partitioned with one drive that has 229GB free of 277GB, and the other is empty with 398GB, so in total 675GB.
The laptop is an ASUS F550L notebook. Im also wondering what kind of RAM i can buy for it.ty

Well, you could probably migrate the C drive and boot partitions to the new 250GB SSD.

You'll need a dock or USB cable for that.

Specific steps for a successful clone operation:
-----------------------------
Verify the actual used space on the current drive is significantly below the size of the new SSD
Download and install Macrium Reflect (or Samsung Data Migration, if a Samsung SSD)
Power off
Disconnect ALL drives except the current C and the new SSD
Power up
Run the Macrium Reflect (or Samsung Data Migration)
Select ALL the partitions on the existing C drive
Click the 'Clone' button
Wait until it is done
When it finishes, power off
Disconnect ALL drives except for the new SSD
This is to allow the system to try to boot from ONLY the SSD
Swap the SATA cables around so that the new drive is connected to the same SATA port as the old drive
Power up, and verify the BIOS boot order
If good, continue the power up

It should boot from the new drive, just like the old drive.
Maybe reboot a time or two, just to make sure.

If it works, and it should, all is good.

Later, reconnect the old drive and wipe as necessary.
Delete the 450MB Recovery Partition, here:
