I am going to buy an SSD to only put operating system on, but still, have my old HDD as a large file holder. When I built my PC, I bought windows 7 and upgraded to windows 10. The only forum I could find about this is here: http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-3369225/installing-SSD-existing-hdd.html But I am afraid to do a fresh install of windows 7 because I do not think I can upgrade to windows 10 anymore. Please help me with this.

Solution
when you when to windows 10 microsoft gives you a digital license now. to reinstall windows 10 all you need do is make a windows media usb stick from windows media creation tool. unplug the hard drive and just have the ssd plugged in. boot from the usb stick and when it ask for a key click on the skip button. when you log in with your windows user name and password windows will pull the key back into the new install. you see under windows activation that it activated with a digital l. update all your drivers and anti virus. power down and plug the old drive back in it should come up with it own drive letter.
