Im looking to upgrade my cpu mobo and ram, I currently have an i5 4460 an old gigabyte mobo and 8gb ddr3 paired with a gtx 1070.

I've been looking at possible upgrades and what I can afford to pay and have narrowed it down to the Gigabyte X470 Aorus Ultra Gaming Mobo, AMD Ryzen 5 1600x CPU, and 16gb Gskill Flare X ddr4 3200 Mhz.

How much performance increase would I see from this kind of upgrade if any? And would it be worth it from a money investment perspective, I'm not really knowledgeable on the subject so would really like some advice, thanks in advance!

Your CPU is bottlenecking your GPU.
So you should se a pretty big improvement in minimum FPS and some improvement in maximum FPS as well.

Although, you should consider the Ryzen 2600X.
The 1600X doesn't come with a cooler (if you already have one, that's not a problem), but the 2600X comes with a pretty decent one.
Not to mention it is newer and better the 1600X.

6core 12 thread overclockable will serve you very well , much better than 4c4t.
Dont get x470, its only for sli, dual gpu.
Get b450 coming soon, later this month may be.
But remember gaming performance rely on good gpu. This upgrade shall get rid of most shuttering and lags, while max fps may not dramatically increase

I've never had great performance from my 1070 with the setup I have at the moment, can't play any new games get terrible fps on things like Mass effect Andromeda, planet coaster, theres more but these games are literally unplayable even on low settings, was hoping the upgrade to the rest of my pc would give me the performance I expect from a 1070.

for gaming you are better off with a b360 mobo plus a i5 8400

An i5 8400 will give more FPS than the Ryzen due to better SCP. However, for daily tasks, Ryzen will be better as 6C12T.

Really, at that level of performance and level of equipment, the difference is not so massive that warrants massive spending change. Go for the 8400 if it is cheaper, and for RAM, make sure it is 16 gigs and (a) 2666 Mhz at least if Intel (b) 3000Mhz at least if Ryzen.

Honestly, I do not see a good reason for you to upgrade anything. Before you consider upgrading any of your PC components, you should first find out what are the performance issues that you are currently facing in order to decide whether you truly need an upgrade or not, and what are the components that you should upgrade so that you can eliminate the current performance issues. But to me I do not see any kind of problems with your current build.

Well that's the thing, I don't know what's wrong with my setup it was a premade budget build pc I added a 1070 to it and I've never really had great performance from it so I was just going to replace all the old components and see if it made a difference. I've tested all the components separately and they are all working as they should, other than that I'm lost as to find out the problem if there is one.

Sry mate I did not notice when you mentioned the performance issues in the above discussion, that's what happens when you stay awake for a long time :).

Since you have tested all the hardware and they worked properly, then the problem would be the software, so drivers, operating system or it could be malware that's causing the low FPS you mentioned. But have you tested all the components even the hard drive? Because if the hard drive is failing, then it could cause you noticeable performance issues, happened to me once. As soon as I installed the broken hard drive the whole system was slow, not just games. In addition, the power supply, it could be the reason for the performance issues, especially that you installed a GTX 1070, so it may be struggling to provide enough power to your build. Can you determine the wattage of your PSU?

But for starters, there is no need to upgrade as long as your current build, which in my opinion a totally fine build, worked as it should be when you tested it separately, so the right course of action here will be to further narrowing the possible events that cause the performance issues.

I have a evga supanova 650w psu that's one of the other things I upgraded so I don't think it's that, I recently switched to ssd too. I'm a wow player and I went through blizz support and he got me to test everything even the memory, nothing alarming came back so he couldn't tell me what was wrong, so right now I don't really know myself.
