Got a new pcie WiFi card gigabyte gc-wb867d-i after using a wireless adapter for a few years. It's it's upto 867. Just wondering if I should be getting any where near the speeds or not. When I go onto network and sharing and click my network I'm getting 177mbps. Also on 5ghz WiFi. Just to mention I don't know an awful lot about this technology. ;)

Solution
WIFI speed depends on the receiver hardware (the gc-wb867d-i) and the transmit hardware (your router). It sounds like your router supports 5Ghz. But it is unknown what bandwidth it supports. Also 5Ghz signal strength drops much faster than 2.4Ghz so being 1 room away could limit your bandwidth.

WIFI performance is almost impossible to predict.

MERGED QUESTION
Question from lewimerch : "gigabyte gc-wb867d-i what speeds should I expect?"

Hello,

Decided to buy a pcie for my pc . I chose the gigabyte gc-wb867d-i. Had been using a wireless usb adaptor. I fitted it into my pc and installed the relevant drivers. But when I click on network and sharing and check my speed I am only getting 175 Mbps. With my tp-link n300 on 2.4ghz WiFi frequency I was getting 144mbps. I've changed the frequency to 5ghz and was hoping close to 867mbps but instead im way off that. Is 175mb good or should I be hoping for 700 plus? I don't know an awful about lot about computers but was hoping for a fix. I am only a few feet away from the router. Ta.

One thread per topic please...

You are getting the lower throughput because of your router if you have an N300. To get 500Mbit+ you will have to have an AC router. Something like a Netgear R7000 or an Asus RT-AC68U would be a good choice.

What WAN speed do you have? As long as your link speed is 2X your WAN speed you areusing all the bandwidth you have.
