First, thank you for checking this issue out/helping me. Your time is valueble, and I appreciate anyone taking the time to look at this issue.

I cannot get the SSD to be recognized by BIOS (american megatrends 1102 12/29/2017) or on disk manager.

https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/TUF-X299-MARK-1/

That is my mobo,

I have an i9, 16gb ram, 1080ti, a 4 TB HHD that I had disconnected when trying to install the OS on the SSD. (here is the full build https://pcpartpicker.com/builds/edit/?userbuild=MGHhP6 )

I went ahead an installed the OS on the regular HHD so I could see if I needed to download a driver, format the drive, or something.

I tried this guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=No-ct8pQcIg

I also tried steps in about 3-4 other tom's guides, however the options in my bios weren't always the same, and I couldn't find a guide that navigated my exact version of BIOS.

Let me know if you need any additional information.

Thank you to anyone who can help with this issue! <3

I'm new with SSDs... but I dont believe it has a sata connection... it is connected to a pci-e m.2 port... I don't see any places to connect a sata power cable. I'll double check (but I'm thinking it's NVMe).

The board is great, solid, the components I have all sync with the RGB... :)

There is another socket... however I couldn't get it to work on that socket either (its the one that sits perpendicular and juts out and needs a bracket to hold it in place). I don't know if I went though all the same troubleshooting on this socket that I did on the first one. It's hard to get to because of how big the GPU is. Also it never felt like it fully clicked in... but I suppose I could try it again? :-/

Thank you btw for looking into this.

Oh and Jay... Yeah my water cooler and rgb stips are compatible with the asus sync (as is the Tforce ram)... and were just plugged into the RGB header on the board, then I can the asus sync software, and I can do a lot of sweet customizing of the lighting. I like to bump some music every now and then and have the lights flicker to it. Still exploring other options. I like the "temp" setting too, so you can see by color how hot the CPU is running.

Just wish I had my OS on this fast m.2 ssd ;)

So you have it in the M.2 slot that lies flat along the motherboard? Hmm, yeah it should work then. The only thing I can think of is try clearing the CMOS. I don't really have much hope of that fixing it, but it's easy enough to try. Other than that, maybe the drive or the M.2 slot is defective.

I'm going to have to try that.

....back to your problem....so there is only one slot that you can put the drive in....and you have and it doesn't recognize it. Do you have AHCI enabled?

FYI, an M.2 SATA SSD is no faster than a regular 2.5" SSD. If you get the non-M.2 version of the MX500, it will perform exactly the same.

Is this a new build? If so, I'd try to get to the bottom of it (rather than just working around it) while things are still under warranty, in case your mobo does actually have a faulty M.2 slot.
