Bypass gmail's smtp security by using an internal mail server instead?

Can I use an internal email server to forward smtp notification emails from my aquarium computer to my gmail and then have gmail send it back to my gmail and my phone? My aquarium computer can only utilize smtp without some type of security (I'm no expert) and most modern email providers like gmail utilize that security. Previously I just had my aquarium computer use smtp through Juno and other crappy unsecured email providers but they started blocking it for some reason. Someone suggested I could bypass using smtp directory through gmail by using smtp on an internal mail server which then simply forwarded to my gmail without smtp. Does that make sense lol?

Solution
You can, but this will add one more computer to take care of with updates. What OS is on your "aquarium PC"? What application you're using for email there?

So the aquarium computer is not really a computer, I can only access and program it using a computer, it basically just keeps schedules/alarms running for outlets/probes on it's own when not plugged into a computer. It is always hooked up to my network.

It connects to my home network with an ethernet cable, but doesn't have the ability to send out emails itself, only by using smtp through an email client like gmail, Juno, Yahoo, AOL, etc, except all those dont work now. I'm not sure how it reaches them but it does so through the device.

My only options with the device are to enter an address, log in info, and port for smtp.
