Says my GTX980 is a GTX 970

So I just got my GTX 980 and popped the card in and updated the driver. After doing so I went to go into afterburner and noticed that it says the card is a GTX 970. So I then open up HWMonitor and Nvidia Control Panel and they both said the same thing. I restarted my computer and it is still saying the same thing. Was curious how to fix this issue. The S/N and code on the GPU also say that it is a GTX 980.

970 has 56/104 rops/tmu , 980 has 64/128

970 has 1664 shaders, 980 has 2048.

I bought it off amazon and it shows all of the specifications o fa GTX 970

If it shows in gpu z even then it is a 970.

Yet it says on the card that it is a GTX 980 and the S/N runs as a GTX 980

^ a 980 is going,to be third party, amazon don't stock 3 year old cards.

Did you get it off an Amazon 3rd party seller for an unusually good deal? Where exactly does it say "GTX 980" and the s/n? If it's somewhere removable (e.g. a sticker on the PCB), it could have been taken from a legit 980 and put on a 970.

You got scammed. Someone returned a 970 and kept the 980

^+1 if it's an open box item, shipped and sold by Amazon, that is very likely what happened. Or rather, Amazon got scammed. The OP should be able to get a refund pretty easily.
