Can you use 2 graphics card in one computer, but only use one at a time?

I know it sounds weird, but i have my reasons...
I just got an Rx 580 8gb and was wondering if i could keep my gtx 960 installed, but since i cant sli/crossfire it, just not use it, but have the ability to switch to it whenever i want. thanks in advance

Yes, you can. Which output(s) from the GPUs will you be using (HDMI, DVI, ...)?

You can, but the question is why?
Why bother with the driver conflicts, extra heat, and extra power?

Its going to be far more effort to get it to work than its worth, especially without a reason provided.

As everyone else has said, it's entirely possible. However, getting games to use each one properly and programs is a lot more hassle than it's worth. Not to mention, extra heat, software incompatibility for two different GPUs, etc.
