Help with ethernet hub

Hi,

I have a load of ethernet ports all around my house, but the problem is none of them work. After looking at the ethernet hub (couldn't get a photo) there is power from the mains connected into the hub, but there are no green LEDs indicating the hub is on and the cables around my house are working. Was wondering whether a new hub would be a fix or would it be something else? I believe there is a load of lead in my walls in my house, and the wireless ethernet won't even pass 2 metres to a wall, and then through it. Any help on the hub and the wifi also?

Hope someone can help.

Thanks

hubs are outdated. you should replace it with a switch. you won't even be able to find a new hub.
the user guide is from 1996.

One of the wires going into the hub is probably coming from the router. you might have to reterminate everything if all the stuff is 25yrs old. if it's cat5e wires you are in good shape, that's the hard part. i'd check one of the keystones or what ever and see what it's rated for.

im not sure about punching down the ethernet and even what that means, I think its cat 5e yep, its a superstack 2 hub with 12 ports I think, please further help?

Searching for that lead to it looking like it's a 10Mbs hub.I'd toss that for sure and buy a 1 Gbs switch with enough ports, unmanaged is fine. You should be able to test your wires by plugging some into your router and then checking ports until you find it. Nothing will light up until you have something on both sides.

so just buy a new switch, plug the old wires into the new switch and good to go?

You have to plug modem->router->switch-> wireless access point, computers, printer, etc.
The router has multiple bridge ports exactly like a switch(bridge). you can test the wires. the wires need to be terminated correctly on each side. you just have to trial.error each wall keystone in the house to figure out what wire is what.

okay, I think at the moment, its just modem >> hub >> ports around house, and router is about 10-15 metres in a different room away from the hub, how would I go about sorting this out?
