I have an HP Envy 360, 16G RAM, laptop running Windows 10 (build 1803). I found a 5G file on my laptop called usmt.kkpg. The only information I could find is that it is a migration tool, However, is this a tool that was used when I migrated to my current laptop, or is this necessary to migrate to a new computer?

If its the User State Migration Tool, then looking at order of chapters above it here, its used for installation, so was likely used when you upgraded or installed win 10 on current PC - https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/usmt/usmt-reference

I don't think you can migrate users to a new PC, but this is likely used on every Version update to carry your users over onto next install. Its also used in the reset process so you can save files and settings and wipe rest of C.

In other words, Yes, you need it. I said IF as the file name you gave only has 1 result and its this post.
