Msi website says its only compatible with 6th gen.

If it isn't compatible per MSI, I wouldn't attempt it.

Then I would have to say that it DOES support it or that would be a HUGE screw up on MSIs part to put that on their website.

When I first googled it.....I only went to the page that said 6th gen.

Here's some more confirmation. It says it will support the 7700.

the motherboard came out when only 6th gen existed so some of the specs or headlines may not have been updated on the motherboard product page. if it lists it under the CPU support list then as long as that motherboard has the right BIOS version odds are it will

Yes, it is compatible as long as the motherboard has BIOS version 7978vA9 (AKA version A.9) or higher.
