I searched Amazon and all the m.2 mvme are Gen3
I did not find nvme gen2

I guess there is no problem taking Gen3 hardware
And assemble Motherboard with nvme Gen 2

Another thing
From the searches I saw m.2 mvme Gen3 X4 and Gen3 X2

My motherboard as is Gen2 but X4

the question?
If the generation is not the same

Is there any importance to X4 OR X2?

I hope I have explained myself correctly
Thanks

But this
Kingston Digital SA1000M8
Form Factor: M.2 2280
Interface:
PCIe NVMe ™ Gen 3.0 x 2 Lanes

is Gen 3.0 only X2

Does not that matter to me?
Or buy a Gen3 X4 version

Will I get better speed?

What is the make/model of your motherboard?

m.2 is a size format. About the size of a stick of gum.

nvme is a sata protocol that is more efficient. Just marginally better in performance.

What you are thinking about is pcie which uses pcie x4 to get faster sequential speeds. Perhaps some 5x faster than sata.

But do not get all excited about that.
Windows does mostly small random I/o and all the devices do quite well at that.

If budget is an issue, you will be pleased with any sata ssd.

If budget is not a big thing, look for a Samsung 960/970 pcie ssd.
