Hi all

I'm looking to you all to make my final decision.

Basically I'm buying a new computer rig, and I can't decide whether to go for the Ryzen 5 2700 or I7 7700 chip. Please can you help me make my mind up?

Sorry, should add, my first priority is GAMING

regards

Scott

Well Ryzen 7 is no better than Ryzen 5 for gaming the Ryzen 7 is just for workstation more so than the Ryzen 5.. I would go i5-8600k if all you want is gaming and then the i7-7700 if you want gaming and streaming.
Strictly for gaming the 7700 is better but the 2700 would be a much better value. There are lots of reasons to go with the 2700. It has 2x more cores, it might be more future proof because of the extra cores, it can overclock, and it has an upgrade path. It's your choice. Do you want better performance today or do you want a CPU that will last and has an upgrade path still? Personally I'd go with the 2700. The i7 7700 shouldn't even be a choice for building a new rig.

If the i7-8700K is out of price why not the i5-8600K? It has about the same performance if not slight bit more and cheaper than the 7700K along with being newer.

Please dont start a riot on the AMD vs Intel stuff.. They are both great but for different reasons.

Strange, I always assumed that the numbers go in chronological order. So I3, I5, I7, etc. So you're saying the I5 is newer? No wonder it's so confusing.

APart from internet, social media and writing a book, which I guess any computer would suffice, the only other thing I want power for is gaming.

I've decided to go with the Ryzen 7 2700, may God strike me down if I've made the wrong decision.

But thank you for everyone who's answered my question.

Well its all about Generations.

like i3 (Haswell,> SkyLake >,Kaby>,Coffe)
its same with i5 ,and i7.

Every new Gen , brings some new (Architecture, Performance etc)
So in your case, the "i7-7700" is from Kaby Lake. Dont get me wrong its strong CPU, but the i5-8600K is the Coffe Lake chip, with "6" Core, without HT (HyperThreading) , but its outperforms i7-7700 , by 23%. (got % data, by "Userbenchmarks")

As we know, games these days will start using more then 4 Cores, and getting 1) Newer architecture cpu 2) with 2+ Additional cores, is win win.

Only pros using 7700, is the HyperThreading but, well for Gaming that i5-8600K is a beast CPU. definitely recommend that. :)

Have fun shopping.

I need to keep up with all this stuff more? :D

I'm about to make purchase now. I'll take a last look at that I5, but I think with a Zen7 with 8 cores and a gtx 1070 I should be ok with gaming for a while.

Yeah it would be great for gaming, just not quite as good as the intel chips.

But the Ryzen 7 can be very versatile with multi threaded work.
