I recently built a new PC with the Ryzen 2600 and Asus Rog B350-f Gaming Motherboard. Took my old SSD and did a fresh install of windows. I then transfered my old HDD over, but it isn't recognized anywhere. It does not show in bios, disk management, etc. I have tried switching SATA cables, different power cords, switching a myriad of bios settings, but nothing works. The HDD doesnt even power on, in the new PC or my old one. I'm starting to believe it's a faulty mobo but am not completley sure. I have also spent two days googling and to no avail. It just baffles me how they seem somehow ruined but the SSD is fine.

The HDD is a Western Digital WD10EZEX 1TB.

Solution
Well I finally figured out it was that I used a different SATA power cable that was for another PSU. I used it without thinking it would be an issue but it turns out it fried the HDDs. Have since replaced it with one of my own and works with replacement drives.

Have you updated your BIOS?

Is your SSD and M2 SATA? It may be conflicting with the SATA port that the HDD is plugged into. I assume you tried a different SATA port.

If you take your hdd and put it into an external USB enclosure, will it work?

Is your HDD recognized if there is no SSD?

If it does not show in BIOS then it will never show in windows.

Yes the bios is up to date. Yes I tried all the sata ports to make sure the m.2 wouldn't interfere. No it isn't recognized when the SSD isn't there. I haven't tried the external USB though. I have tried plugging it into 2 other computers and it doesn't spin up so I assume something killed it. It happened to two different HDDs I had which is odd.

The Seagate I had was over 4 years old but the WD I had was less than 1 year. I had the WD plugged into the same powerstrip as the SSD which I find odd that the SSD is fine. But the mobo never recognized the HDD even from the beginning.

I'd like to just order a new drive but if its the mobo and not my fault I'd like to know but I have no idea how I would tell at this point, without risking another drive that is.

just as a matter of interest, what PSU do you have?

The only think that would kill your HDD would be a voltage spike, I would not expect the motherboard to be the problem.
It is strange that everything else works.

Just confirming that both hdd did not work in another computer.
