I am currently trying to install Windows 7 from a USB on my new computer, and whenever i boot into windows my mouse, keyboard, and even power button stop working and i have to restart by turning off the PSU. Everything works perfectly fine in BIOS, and i have tried putting the peripherals in every slot imaginable. I have also tried messing with xhci hand off to no avail.

SPECS:
Msi B350 PC MATE
Geforce GTX 1060
AMD Ryzen 3 1300x
NZXT s350 Elite

Solution

With the manner in which the motherboards were released for the Ryzen processors, updating the BIOS is nearly a necessity. The BIOS versions have been updated fairly frequently to address problems.

I have been doing that, but not disconnecting the SATA cable.

It eliminates any problems with the boot order.

Since you can get into the BIOS, try updating the BIOS to the latest version. Then try again.

windows 7 is missing the drivers for the newer mb. if you cant do f6 custom install at the start of windows then look for the old program called 7lite. it let you add the newer amd chipset drivers to your older windows 7 iso and get it to install. if you cant update windows 7 use your windows 7 key and upgrade to windows 10.

I have decided to try installing windows 10 instead, as this seems to be more trouble than its worth. Do windows 7 keys still work for windows 10 installs?

I am not sure that you will be able to do a free upgrade as in the past. You can take it up with Microsoft. At this point, I would assume that you will need to purchase Windows 10.
