Is, NZXT - Kraken X42 enough i7 8700k?

Solution
There is no guarantee that your 8700K will do 5.0.
Here are some statistics:
as of 3/22/2018
What % of I7-8700k chips can oc
at a aggressive vcore near 1.4 or so and delidded
4.9 99%
5.0 88%
5.1 54%
5.2 22%

Note that the required vcore is near 1.4v.
The vcore is what drives up the temperature.

You need very good cooling to do that.

What is your case and what is your case cooling fan arrangement?

If you already have the X42, go ahead and try it.

If you do not, own one already, I would not spend that kind of money on a aio liquid cooler.
If your case has 160mm height available for an air cooler, the noctua NH-D15s will be cheaper, cool better, be more reliable, quieter, and will not leak.

5GHz? lolno.

Single fan liquid AiO coolers are pretty bad, really. I honestly don't see the point of making these, except for baiting people to buy these because it's supposedly "superior" cooling to air.

That doesn’t provide the sufficient amount of cooling for your cpu to oc 5 ghz. If you want to overclock to that extent, you definitely need to get a 240mm water cooler. But with that aio you could possibly oc your cpu to 4.5 ghz but like almost all 120mm aios, they don’t really give you great temps at the ghz.

According to this article http://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/nzxt-kraken-x42-review,10.html, the x42 can cool up to 140w of TDP. an i7 8700k overclocked produces 180-200w, far above what is possible. So no, you should not use that to cool such a chip. Delidding may help if you are interested in such a practice, however.

Considering it has the same thermal design power as my chip and I've over clocked my chip from 3.8 boost to 4.05 with a 120 mm water cooler and never even touch 60ºC I think he should be able to increase his by at least as much as I did mine considering it's actually a smaller over clock as a percentage and he has a better cooler.
